Obama White House criticizes Minnesota traditional marriage amendment

ST. PAUL, May 25, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Obama administration has condemned a traditional marriage amendment proposal in Minnesota in a statement issued Tuesday.

The amendment, passed by the state legislature on Saturday in a 70-62 vote, would allow Minnesotans the opportunity to vote during the 2012 election to enshrine traditional marriage in the state constitution.

When the gay news source Washington Blade asked for comment on the amendment, White House spokesman Shin Inouye issued a statement. It read:

“The President has long opposed divisive and discriminatory efforts to deny rights and benefits to same sex couples or to take such rights away. While he believes this is an issue best addressed by the states, he also believes that committed gay couples should have the same rights and responsibilities afforded to any married couple in this country.” Click "Here" for complete article.

It seems like our President is not having a very good week! First he threatens the state of Indiana for being the first state to defund Planned Parenthood. Now he is criticizing Minnesota for passing the traditional marriage amendment to their constitution that states: “Only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in Minnesota.” Now the voters in Minnesota will have a chance to vote on whether they would like to keep the traditional marriage in their state.  This amendment sounds just fine too me. Way to go Minnesota!

I am anxious to see what state will be next on the Obama Administrations list of "bad boys" that need to be reprimanded. What do all of you out there in cyberspace feel about this issue?

This whole issue is so stupid. Honestly!

Homosexuals ALREADY HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AS "TRADITIONAL" COUPLES: what they do not have is the right to a "traditional marriage" ... and they never will.

There has never been a recorded instance in history where homosexuals have had traditional marriages, though is are endless accounts of open homosexual unions recorded;aAnd there never will be despite this homosexual prez. ob is not a god - ob is not God. ob cannot change the Laws of God to suit his warped sense of reality. MPO

homosexuals have the right to live together - and they do; homosexuals have the right to have children - and they do (I personally think this is wrong because I have first hand experience with the lifelong damages it causes); homosexuals have the right to parade their lifestyle in public - and they do; homosexuals have the right to work without discrimination - and they do (the ones who are militant are the ones that cause trouble in the work place, not the other way around); homosexuals have the right to fight for this country like any other soldier - and they do ... there is not a single right they do not have that straight couples have EXCEPT THE RIGHT TO A TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE.

Their life is not traditional; they have deviated and CHOSEN an ALTERNATE LIFESTYLE. This is their own choice: CHOICE IS NOT A RIGHT!

Marriage, as put forth by Father, is between man and woman. All the homosexual sympathizers cannot change that. Period.

As a Minnesotan, I am thrilled that we, the people, will be able to vote on this.

President Obama has spoken out in anti-Biblical statements repeatedly(especially of late), including coming out with statements against Israel.

Our country needs our prayers. Our president, states and their leaders, churches and their leaders and our families and their leaders need our prayers. Lord, have mercy on all of us, and cause repentance in our land.

Thanks for sharing Lloyd. I continue to pray for our leaders, as God put them where they are for a reason and He told us to pray for them.
I love what Val said: "Ob is not a god, ob is not God"
He knows what to do and who to target for the upcoming election.

:) Blessings to you.

We the people have only ourselves to blame.

Apparently Mr. Obama hasn't read or doesn't believe the constitution when it specifies any power not specifically designated by the constitution to the federal government belongs to the state or local government.

I'm pleased to know that my state chose to do what was morally right rather than what is politically correct. Apparently our president is too busy playing angles to stop and determine what type of moral quality his speeches resound with. Is political correctness synonymous with moral bankruptcy? Thank you for the update, Lloyd.
