Ah, the rabbit - a corruption of the association of the hare with the Goddess Ēostre - after which the festival of Easter is named... See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%92ostre

Sad Christians had to steal a festival of Spring - a festival of the resurrection of the world after winter and attach some fairy stories to it about a Jewish revolutionary rising from the dead... Because he was ‘sinless’ and fulfilled the ‘Law’. Odder still that at no point in the Old Testament do we hear of an afterlife or that if anyone fulfils the law that they will live forever...

Of course, some theologians tell us that our natural state is immortal and that it was only sin that brought death... Yet didn’t God himself say ‘The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live for ever.’ – Gen 3: 22? Suggesting that Adam was NOT immortal...

Hey hum, the Easter Bunny looks more much credible than some Bronze Age myths dovetailed into Greek philosophy and Roman law...
