Obama pulls defense for law banning gay marriage

WASHINGTON | Wed Feb 23, 2011 3:38pm EST

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama has determined that a federal law that barred gay marriages was unconstitutional and told government lawyers to stop defending it, the Justice Department said on Wednesday, a major reversal that quickly angered conservatives.

A U.S. judge in Boston ruled in 2010 that a key provision of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) banning gay marriages was unconstitutional, but the Obama administration appealed, stating that it was obligated to defend U.S. laws.

The hot-button issue of same-sex marriage has been the focus of many judicial and political battles across the country. Gay marriage has only been legalized in the District of Columbia and five of the 50 states -- Connecticut, Massachusetts, Iowa, New Hampshire and Vermont. Click "Here" for complete story.

This is not really too surprising to me when it comes to the flip-flopping of the decisions made by our president. As you recall, Obama was for "civil Unions" and not "Gay Marriages". Now that our Commander and Chief has decided to endorse "Gay Marriages", we should see the wide spread of the virus begin to migrate towards the west coast. All Christians need to pray for the Obama Administration and the ungodly decisions that they have been making for us and our grandchildren to live with.

The virus (satan) has been increasing active each and every day. Prayer is our only weapon.

I think this was probably Obama's intention all along. It was a gradual approach to endorsing same sex marraiages aimed to buy him time and hold off conservatives. Politicians cannot save our country. Only the Lord can, and boy do we need Him now. We must be praying.

We've drifted so far from God that it boggles my mind. We will be brought back to reality in His time, and it will not be pretty.

The bible is very specific and clear on same sex relationships, if a man lie down with another man as if with a woman, it is an abomination. I once worked with a gay man and witnessed to him frequently. Although he did not agree with the Bible teaching, he taped the passage from the Bible in his cubicle under the counter that I gave to him, but still in plain site. He could not escape the truth and his own conscience. I think even nature was telling him his lifestyle was not sanctioned as he has full blown aides and has been on medication for over 10 yrs. I praise you for addressing such a controversal subject. Our president indeed needs our prayers...

Great Post.
My personal opinion is to basically pray for those who are unbelievers and live a life that is a testimony of God's goodness and grace. That's all we really can do.
Thanks for sharing this post!
God Bless With Love,

Obama will stand before The Righteous Judge someday and give an account. I don't even want to be in the vicinity when justice is handed out.

Thank you for stopping by my blog. Glad you are following my posts now. I as well am following yours. Your kind words of appreciation are appreciated for what my husband does serving our country. Thank you for serving during your as well. My father did 29 so I have high admiration for those willing to do such. This post you have done makes me want to cry and burry my head in shame for our nation. Shame on us for electing such a CHRIST~less individual to represent us as Americans. Our country has fallen so short and it saddens me to think this is what my children have to endure as they are growing up in the midst of all of this filth. Tisk tisk to our "president" and our senate for allwing such bills to pass!!!!!!

Well, like the Bible says the world isn't going to get any better (until Christ returns)!

What I don't get is why the U.S. Attorney's General can pick and choose which laws to enforce or not to enforce.

The fact that Obama claims to be a Christian reveals how far from the truth people's understanding of what means to be a Christian has drifted. Good post and good comments. Thanks for following my blog.

GayMommie - Thank you for your visit and comments. It has always been amazing to me how folks interpret the Bible to fit their own personal lifestyles. My prayer is that you will read and meditate on God's Word and that the Holy Spirit will convict you of the truth. God bless.
