Catholic Hospitals in Spain Accused of Providing Abortions

By Matthew Cullinan Hoffman

CATALONIA, Spain, September 7, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Several Catholic hospitals in Spain's Catalonia region have been accused of providing abortions by the Spanish newspaper ABC.

ABC reports that the health ministry records of two Catholic hospitals, the Sant Pau (Saint Paul) Hospital and the Hospital of Granollers, show that they have for years performed "Voluntary Interruptions of Pregnancy." ABC also reports that it has confirmed that in just one year, Sant Pau Hospital has performed twenty such abortions. The same hospital has lobbied in favor of the legalization of the abortion-inducing "morning after pill," RU-486, ABC reports. Click here to read the full story.

This should be an interesting story to follow. The RCC has always been against abortions so I am sure that when this finally breaks loose and all of the facts are in there will be some Catholic hospitals in Spain were "Heads" will roll or "Funding" will stop. I remember when I was employed at Mercy Medical Center here in the Roseburg, Oregon area, that it was sometimes hard to hire or keep the hospital employed with Christians. So these accusations are not a big surprise to me because there are a lot of non-believes that make it up the corporate ladder even in a Catholic funded and owned hospital. God's blessings.

Hi Lloyd,
These folks should take heed to God's Holy Word which says:

"Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying: "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations." (Jeremiah 1:4-5).

"What then shall I do when God rises up? When He punishes, how shall I answer Him? Did not He who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same One fashion us in the womb?" (Job 31:14-15)

"For You formed my inward parts; you covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well." (Psalm 139:13-14)

Enjoyed your blog.
In His Love, Brenda

Lloyd, each day I can't help but think " How much more and farther can man's depravity go?" Even if these are non-Christians, the Roman catholic church is still responsible for their conduct. If nothing else, it is definitely a case of not following the procedures of due diligence. If true, then heads should roll(figuratively speaking) If past examples of this hold true, several people will likely have a lateral move into some other unsuspecting parish. (read the last part as attempted cover-up)

These people need our prayers.

I'm Seventh-day Adventist and the fact that in America, our hospitals apparently perform abortions has been a great source of dismay. Here that would never happen. We always hold up the RCC as an example of those who would never do it in their hospitals. As if the priests' sex scandals are not enough. Hypocrisy is everywhere it seems. Not in every congregation as a whole, mind you, in every denomination.

Wow! That's pretty awful. Hopefully heads will roll soon. Abortion is a great evil in the eyes of God. God is the author and giver of life. Murderers will be punished.

Come on over to my blog and read my new blog post titled, "Emotional Aftermath: Divorce of Tiger Woods. I write from a spiritual perspective of what happened between him and Elin based on the highly publicized article in People magazine that was on newsstands last week.

Darkness is increasing by leaps and bounds. Look up, our redemption draws near. In the meantime, let us pray but also not stop presenting God's truths and warnings as you so well present here on your page.

Thank you for sharing.

This really points out how often members of a group don't really believe the official position. It is really difficult to state accurately what members of a group actually believe. It is critical that we be very clear about what God teaches, so they understand why we believe what we believe. Tradition isn't a good enough reason for people to hold to a doctrine.

I think it would be good at this point to have poll as to how many of the above have given money/time (the latter is the more ‘costly’ and the more telling as to people’s characters) to organisations working with women to provide practical and financial help for unwanted pregnancies.

How many have lobbied government for better child care, housing and schooling so that the mother of an unplanned for pregnancy can be sure her child can be raised and have the same opportunities as any other child.

Lastly, it is interesting to note that in Northern European countries, where there is overtly secular models of welfare, comprehensive sex education in schools, secular emphasis in schooling and church attendance is considerably less than in the US (around 7% compared with 50% in the US) that there is significantly lower abortion rates and – strangely enough – a higher age when young people first have sex and fewer teenage pregnancies than in the US (somewhat blowing the idea out of the water that liberalism encourages promiscuity).

Whatever, I am sure there are more important things you could get your godly knickers in a twist over! But no, soft targets and the ‘easy morality’ of condemnation of others is what seems to pass for righteousness for many of our Christian brethren across the Herring Pond...

Sharing God’s Love – Thank you for your visit and kind comments. Abortion is a very “hot” and “touchy” political issue in the world today. It seems to me that the “world views” are beginning to take over the “Christian views” regarding the value of human life. Thank you for the scriptures. God bless.

IanH – Thank you for your visit and comments. I agree with you totally on this. Man’s depravity shows no end when it comes to sin and corruption according to the Bible. It only shows me that we are in the “End times”. Come Lord Jesus.

Denise, Cindy, and Lou – I want to thank each of you for your visits and comments. And, Lou… I think that this should sadden every true believer in our Lord Jesus. God bless.

Thandi – Thank you for your visit and comments. The whole human race are sinners and each one of us is capable of the most vile and despicable acts against another person. The only thing that keeps us in check is our intimate relationship with God. I would never want to point a finger at any particular denomination regarding sex scandals or any other sin against God. We need to look at what God’s Word is telling us to do in our life and not a religious organization made up of sinners. For we are all sinners who have fallen short of God’s glory. God bless.

Judith, Sister Sheena and One Heart – Thanks for the visit and comments. It is true, One Heart, that darkness is increasing by leaps and bounds. Let us all pray for the wisdom and courage needed to step forward boldly and witness to this perverted and lost world. God bless.

dfish – Thank you for your visit and words of wisdom. What you say is the truth. We Christians must make it clear about what God teaches when we witness to the world. It is also imperative that we stand our ground and not let “World views” slip into our churches. Bless you.

The Problem with Religion – I want to personally thank you for your visit and comments. You bring up some very important issues that need to be addressed by the Christian community. At this moment in time, as you can see, my “godly knickers” are twisted over the plight of human suffering that is an end result of the corrupt and decaying world view of God’s moral laws that He gave all His children to live by. My prayers continue to go out to you my brother in Christ. God bless.

Hi I'm Anglican and definitely believe in abortion, just wondered why is abortion a bad thing. I see the point about it being life etc but the baby doesn't even know its being born, a life so surely it's better to have abortion if its life is going to be not that great?

Bexsy Lee - I think the bottom line is this -- Only God can decide to give or take a life. And, who is to say if a child is born that their life is or is not going to make a difference in this world. Thanks for your visit and comments.
